Sports Direct facing multimillion-pound zero-hours compensation claims

Sports Direct is facing claims totalling millions of pounds from nearly 300 members of staff on zero-hours contracts.

Their status meant they were unable to take part in a bonus scheme that paid out about £160 million worth of shares to over 2,000 ‘permanent’ employees in 2013 alone. Pay Justice, a workers right group, is supporting their claims.

The claims appear to be founded on the concept of the treatment being unfair on the grounds of their part-time status.

It’s reported that there are between 75% - 90% of Sports Direct staff are on zero-hours contracts.
