Statutory Sick Pay no longer reclaimable from Government
Prior to 6th April 2014, employers could reclaim Statutory Sick Pay from the government if it was in excess of 13% of the employer’s national insurance contribution in that particular month.
The government now view that the previous legislation allows employees to remain on long term sick when they may otherwise have been dismissed by the employer. The right to reclaim has now been removed.
The government predict they will save the tax payer £50 million as a result of this change.
