Cohabitation
Advising clients who are engaged in living with another party is unfortunately an area of the law which is not always recognised by other firms.
We have a long history of advising clients who are living with other persons. What is also not commonly known is that cohabitation does not automatically create a legal relationship between the parties.
It is often thought that there is a "common law" right to claim financial relief upon a cohabitation relationship breaking down. This is not the case. Many persons are vulnerable because of this fact. Written cohabitation agreements can overcome this. It is also the case that because of various events that occurred during the relationship that financial claims can arise and therefore it is important to seek accurate advice so as to ensure that potential claims are not lost.
