About Us

Gosschalks is a 34 partner, commercially focused legal practice based in Kingston upon Hull.

Our ethos is to deliver a highly efficient, top class, modern day legal service supported by good old fashioned client care and genuine attention to detail.

Our investment in a higher than average ratio of senior partners to junior solicitors ensures that your work is always managed by experienced individuals who are here to stay. This is not necessarily the case in larger multi-site practices where volume casework is often delivered amongst a pool of less experienced lawyers.

We invest large amounts of time and effort in ensuring that our people are kept abreast of all areas of development including technology. Gosschalks has developed carefully planned and documented systems to cope with the increasing demand for leading edge services across the UK legal market. Our methodical approach has seen the practice rapidly expand its use and understanding of technology, continually adding value to the services we offer.

Despite the substantial and necessary development of technology, we strive to keep matters as simple and straightforward as possible and to maintain a personal touch which we believe many larger legal practices struggle to achieve. We believe that our people should provide a friendly, informed and trusted point of contact.  Insofar as corporate clients are concerned, we take the view that fostering a “partnership” with you enables clearer communication which in turn provides us with a better understanding of your objectives and means we effectively become a trusted extension to your in-house resources.

Our approach to corporate and social responsibility...

We are continually aware of our duty to consider the social, economic and environmental impact of our activities. We also wish to contribute positively to our local community and the environment in which we operate.

We treat all partners, staff and potential staff equally regardless of their race, colour, ethnic or national origins, sex, pregnancy, marital status, disability, sexual orientation, religion or belief, or age.

We take seriously our impact upon the environment and take steps to help reduce the firm’s carbon footprint and its impact on the environment. A recent example of this is our move to a virtualised IT infrastructure, dramatically reducing unnecessary requirements for power and cooling.

We understand that the role of any business in society extends beyond simply making a profit at the end of the year, and, for Gosschalks, it is important to recognise that corporate and social responsibility is not only relevant to our clients, but also to our own people.

What this means in practice is that we engage in a number of both formal and informal activities which we feel make a positive difference to the community in which we do business. These include:

  • Being bond holders at Hull Forward. It is a stated aim of Hull Forward to be instrumental in the economic and physical regeneration of the city and we think that it is important that we are part of this as a key contributor. See www.hull.co.uk for details.

  • Supporting our local football club, Hull City AFC in the Barclays Premier League, by being a member of their “Official Business Partner scheme”. As a preferred supplier to the club, we have worked with the team and the management for a number of years and we are, therefore, by no means ‘fair weather’ supporters!

  • Acting, on a national basis, for a number of well known charities providing property and litigation services and, on a local basis, for a number of smaller charities providing property services and general legal advice. In order to make a positive contribution towards these clients and in recognition of their charitable status, we offer preferential rates and services and we work closely with them in order to help them implement their charitable objectives. We are also sponsors of CASE which is a local charity which employs disabled young people to build and sell furniture and other items.

  • Undertaking on an individual basis a wide range of charitable, social, and community activities and we are committed to supporting our people in doing this. These activities include raising money for charity via sponsorship in running marathons and other sporting events; governorships of local schools; acting as trustees and members of Parish Councils.

In our experience these activities play a key part, not just in terms of making a positive contribution to the local area, but also in the development of our own people. While it is true that the organisations that we support gain significant value from us, we also find that these activities provide valuable motivational and team building support to all of our own teams.
