One of the UK’s leading Licensing lawyers, Clare heads up our nationally renowned Licensing team. Clare deals with all aspects of betting and liquor licensing for individuals and high profile national clients, this includes submission of applications and representation on contested matters before Local Authorities and on appeal at Magistrates Court.
Born in North Wales, Clare went on to attend school in Hong Kong before studying at Sussex University. She joined Gosschalks in 1985 as part of the merger with Chambers Thomas. Clare’s outstanding advocacy skills soon came to the fore and her career in Licensing was born. As an understudy to the late Les Green, arguably the UK’s finest Licensing lawyer of his generation, Clare’s rise to the top was rapid and based on merit.
“Nothing gives me greater pleasure than winning a case. Whilst specialist knowledge and advocacy skills are both vitally important, it’s the relationship you build with your client that serves as the most important factor in many cases. I need to understand their exact requirements and they need to understand from me what is and isn’t possible – only then can we plot a route to success.”
Clare continues to win praise for her attention to detail and consistently achieves a top UK ranking in both the Legal500 and Chambers guide to the legal profession. She’s a contributor to Patersons Licensing Acts, has had articles published in the New Law Journal and is part of the co-editorial team at Gosschalks responsible for the EF&P Fifth Edition Volume 26(2)(B) - Licensed Premises.
