Born and raised in Hull, Paul studied Law at the University before going on to attend the College of Law York. He joined Gosschalks in 2000 as a trainee, qualified into the Corporate department in July 2002 and was made a Partner in 2008.
Paul advises on all corporate matters, including share and business acquisitions and disposals, public takeovers, reorganisations and reconstructions, and joint venture and shareholders’ agreements.
“It’s vital that you take advice at an early stage. All too often, when clients are in early discussions in relation to corporate transactions or company matters, they try to deal with matters and resolve initial issues themselves. This can lead to renegotiations and additional costs, which could’ve been avoided if we were involved from the outset.”
Paul has helped to develop our Charity Law practice, and regularly advises charity trustees on their duties and obligations under both Charity and Company Law.
“The most rewarding part of the job is completing a transaction. Everyone involved in corporate transactions works very hard to get the job over the line and completed. Afterwards, knowing that you’ve played a part in someone’s new venture or business expansion, or setting a client up for retirement if they’re selling out, is extremely rewarding.”
