Sarah went to school in the East Riding of Yorkshire, lived in Manchester for 9 years, and then returned to the East Riding where she has remained ever since. She worked in a range of jobs including Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages, and Citizens Advice Bureau Advisor before deciding on a legal career and qualifying as a solicitor in 2006.
“I’ve always worked in jobs where people skills and listening are of crucial importance. Being a solicitor is no different. To be a good commercial litigation solicitor, you need to really listen and understand your client’s business and what outcome they are looking for before you can advise them.”
A solicitor in the commercial litigation team, Sarah advises on a wide range of disputes including debt recovery, contractual disputes, professional negligence, company disputes, and residential and commercial property litigation.
Sarah made the move to Gosschalks in 2013 after training at a high street firm in Scunthorpe and working for another Hull firm for 7 years. She became an Associate at Gosschalks in 2015.
“I thrive on the variety of commercial litigation. When you’re trying to resolve a dispute for a company, you quickly have to learn about the work of that business, be it engineering, finance or property. I love the fact that one day I can be engaged in the finer points of some financial documents or leases, and then the next day I might be immersed in the more technical aspects of air-conditioning ducting or sluice-gates.”
Sarah enjoys making connections with clients and forming a working relationship with them.
“What’s rewarding about my job is the working relationships that can develop. Over time you can become a client’s regular trusted advisor. If you give the right advice you can be a factor in helping their business to thrive.”
