A Downright Special partnership
As part of our ongoing investment in our local community, we’ve teamed up once again with The Smile Foundation to help out one of their recent charity projects, Downright Special, on a pro bono basis.
Part of that work has involved our Employment team re-drafting Downright Special’s employment contracts and handbooks, and we’ve also committed to supporting them in the long term by offering ongoing HR and Employment law support to ensure their time is spent doing what they do best.
Not only will this save the charity money and provide protection, more importantly, it will help them to grow, as Head of Employment, Ted Flanagan, explains: “It’s not just the cost savings – it provides peace of mind and they now know that whenever they need advice, we’re there for them.”
“It’s actually very humbling to be in a position to help such a great organisation. We never tire of hearing about the wonderful things they achieve and how everything they do positively impacts on the children and the families who they support.”
Gillian Bowlas, Chair of Downright Special said: “The team at Gosschalks has been fully supportive of our needs ever since we were introduced to them by Smile. Ted and his team have done a wonderful job providing important HR advice and support that we would otherwise have been unable to afford. Our finances are best placed helping local children and their families directly, so to receive support like this is a real boost.”
“The team at Gosschalks are always popping up with nice little surprises to remind us that they support our work. Only last month, Sarah Coates-Madden organised a cake raffle raising vital funds and Steve Savage organised for selection boxes for all the kids at our Christmas Party. Everything they do is so well received and I can’t thank them enough on behalf of all the families who benefit.”
Downright Special is a charity that supports children with Down syndrome in Hull and East Yorkshire. Originally set up in 2007 by a group of parents, it’s been a registered charity since 2009, and is run by a small team of professionally trained volunteers and staff.
