The Red and Black Ball, organised by the Hull and East Yorkshire (HEY) Smile Foundation, was held at the KC Stadium on 13 November 2015 and the total is the most raised at the event in its three-year history.
Hundreds of people bought tickets months in advance of the night, enjoying a three-course meal, top class raffle prizes including a trip to New York, and entertainment from the Ordinary Men.
Now, the money will be distributed among several worthy causes and groups, with disadvantaged families the first to benefit when they enjoy a visit to the Aladdin pantomime at Fruit in Hull’s Humber Street this Christmas.
Sarah Shepherdson, business administrator at the Smile Foundation and part of the Smile Committee who organise the event, said plans are currently being finalised regarding where the money will be distributed.
She said: “We are absolutely blown away by the success of the 2015 Red and Black Ball and it truly was a fantastic night. “As a charity, we have amazing support from the business community and they turned out in force to give their backing to the ball, alongside many other friends and supporters of the Smile Foundation.
“The Red and Black Ball committee met regularly to ensure every detail was taken care of and their passion and dedication ensured everyone had a wonderful night. “It’s great that various worthy causes will benefit from the money raised, as it really will make a difference, and we received so many generous donations and pledges on the night. “We’re already looking forward to 2016’s Red and Black Ball.”
