Since joining the firm in 2008, Matthew has worked as a member of the firm’s pub team. Whilst he has a broad range of property experience, Matthew spends most of his time dealing with specialist transactions involving public houses.
Matthew deals mainly with major national players in the leisure sector but also enjoys the opportunity to work on a number of local accounts, which is something he enjoys. Born, educated and now working in Hull, Matthew is keen to engage with the wider business community. He’s a founding member of Business Springboard, a career development organisation aimed at enhancing opportunities for future business leaders to engage with key stakeholders in the local business community.
“I was one of a number of people involved in setting up Business Springboard as I wanted to ensure I played my part in shaping the future of the City business community. It seemed to me that there were far more opportunities out there than most people were aware of. As a group, we try to join the dots and make it easier for people to understand what’s on our door step, to meet up with new people and for new deals to be done. I currently sit as the Vice-Chair and it’s a thoroughly enjoyable role.”
Matthew is a popular figure amongst his clients and is known for his ability to thrive under pressure ensuring his deals are always completed within the specified timeframe. As an industry specialist, he receives praise for his honest and frank assessments when dealing with complex deals, ensuring his clients always have a very clear view on proceedings.
“At Gosschalks, you’re taught from your very first day to be honest and timely in providing clear, commercial advice at all times. It’s my job to guide my clients to a successful conclusion as quickly and painlessly as I can. Building up rapport with my clients is critical to that processes – they need to know I’m there to assist at every step of the way and that they can pick up the phone and speak to me about absolutely anything which isn’t clear.”
