Arranging Christmas Contact For Children - The Role Of Mediation

Richard Perry, 25th November, 2025

For separated parents, establishing suitable arrangements during the Christmas period can present considerable challenges.

While the festive season is traditionally associated with joy and happiness, disputes regarding specific timings such as Christmas Eve or Christmas morning can sometimes ruin Christmas for families, particularly when young children are involved.

Where agreement proves difficult, Family Mediation may provide an effective means of resolving these issues. A trained Mediator acts as a neutral third party to support parents in reaching a consensus on arrangements for Christmas and other notable occasions.

Mediation sessions can be scheduled promptly. Legal Aid may be available to cover the costs, and additional funding from the Ministry of Justice Scheme can provide for at least one full mediation session where Legal Aid eligibility requirements are not met.
