30 Years at Gosschalks – A Q&A with Emma Moore

Steve Savage, 17th June, 2026

Thirty years is an incredible milestone, and we’re delighted to celebrate this special moment with our HR Manager, Emma Moore. Her journey is a great example of how curiosity, commitment, and a willingness to explore new opportunities can shape a rewarding career.

In this Q&A, Emma reflects on her 30 years with us and how having the flexibility to explore different career directions has helped shape her journey.

Q: When did you join Gosschalks?

I joined back in 1996 as an office junior - which feels like a very long time ago now!

Q: Do you remember your interview?

I do; it was very different to how we interview today! One question I was asked was what I enjoyed doing in my spare time and said I played for Hull City ladies and had a Hull City season pass in the south stand and went each week with my dad and sister. I later found out that likely helped me land the job, as the Partnership Secretary at the time was a big City fan!

Q: What were those early days like?

It was very much learning on the job - getting to grips with the basic skills like organisation, attention to detail, and how to work as part of a team. It was a really good grounding and something I advocate now.

Q: How did your career develop from there?

After about a year, I moved into a legal secretary role in the litigation department. That turned out to be a really important step for me in terms of my development.

Q: What was it like working in litigation?

Busy and sometimes challenging, but I learned a lot. I spent around 10 years there, built up my skills, and worked with some really supportive colleagues along the way.

Q: What made you change direction?

After a decade, I felt ready for something different and wanted to broaden my experience, so when the opportunity arose, I moved back into the admin team to learn more about how the firm worked as a whole.

Q: Did you do any further training during that time?

Yes, I completed my CIPD qualification alongside working in the admin team, attending Hull College on an evening. It was challenging at times, but it definitely helped open further opportunities for me within the firm.

Q: What do you do now?

I’m now HR & Admin Manager. Day to day, that means supporting the staff and partners across the firm, helping to shape our workplace culture, and contributing to the continued success of the firm.

Q: Has your journey through different roles helped in your current position?

Definitely. Having worked in different areas of the firm has given me a broader understanding of both the people and the business, which has been really invaluable.

Q: What stands out most when you look back over 30 years?

The people, without a doubt. I’ve worked with some great colleagues over the years, and that’s a big part of why I’ve stayed. Like many others, I have also been given the opportunity to develop my career here which I am very grateful for.

Q: What’s next?

I’m looking forward to seeing what comes next and continuing to play my part as the firm continues to grow and move forward.
