About Sam…

Sam is a Partner in the dispute resolution team at Gosschalks, specialising in construction and complex commercial disputes. He advises developers, contractors, subcontractors and professional consultants on high-value and technically demanding matters across the UK.

Specialisms:

  • Construction/Complex Commermercial Disputes
  • Non-Contentious Construction Law
  • Wayleave Advice and Disputes
  • Electricity Energy Infrastructure Disputes
  • Strategic Land Use Considerations (Electricity Energy Infrastructure)

His practice spans all forms of alternative dispute resolution and High Court litigation, with a particular focus on disputes arising out of large-scale construction projects and professional negligence actions. In parallel, he advises developers and contractors on procurement strategy and drafts construction contracts, giving him a genuinely integrated front-end and back-end practice. This dual perspective allows Sam to approach disputes with a detailed understanding of how projects are structured in practice, and to provide contract advice with a clear view of how issues are likely to play out if tested. Clients benefit from advice that is both legally robust and grounded in the commercial realities of construction projects.

Sam is known for taking a pragmatic and commercially focused approach. He works closely with clients to align legal strategy with project objectives, whether that involves early resolution or pursuing a matter through to final determination. Clients value his hands-on involvement and continuity throughout a matter. He takes ownership from initial instruction through to resolution, providing clear, consistent advice and acting as a single, accountable point of contact.

In addition to his core construction practice, Sam has developed significant expertise in matters involving electricity energy infrastructure. He advises commercial clients and large estates on issues arising from the installation and maintenance of powerlines, including compensation claims, wayleave disputes and strategic land use considerations in this highly specialised area.

Additional interests

Alongside his legal practice, Sam has a strong interest in legal technology. He regularly delivers talks on the application of technology in legal practice and maintains close connections with the law tech sector, with a particular focus on how technology can improve efficiency and client service in disputes work.

He also plays an active role in developing junior lawyers within the firm, working closely with trainee solicitors during their litigation seats and contributing to their training and progression.
