Graduate Training Programme

Just how good is our graduate training programme?

Twenty-six of our current lawyers joined the firm as trainee solicitors fresh from law school. Sixteen of them went on to become partners. Many of those partners have gone on to lead teams and departments and to work on the biggest cases with the biggest clients, achieving national acclaim in the Legal 500 and Chambers guide.

If you think it’s a glamorous job, think again. We roll up our sleeves and get stuck in.

This is because being a lawyer at Gosschalks means thinking like an entrepreneur. It means having solid business sense, a sound understanding of our client's needs, sector specialist knowledge, a knack for spotting opportunities others can’t and having the courage to go after them.

The difference with us is we don’t just say it, we practice it.

Applying for our Graduate Training Programme

Applications for 2026 are OPEN

With the firm growing year on year, we’re always looking for future solicitors, partners and leaders to join us.

Our initial selection criteria requires applicants to have achieved at least three A to C grades at A-Level or equivalent and to have achieved or be predicted at least a 2:1 in their degree. In exceptional circumstances and for applicants who have come late to the law, we will consider applicants whose grades do not meet the criteria.

To complete the application form for 2026 please click here. The closing date for applications is 31 July 2024.

We currently offer two routes to qualify as a solicitor, the LPC route or the SQE route. If you are unsure which route to follow, Richard Taylor the firm’s Training Principal answers some frequently asked questions in his Blog.

Emma Walley - Associate - Company Department (Former Trainee)

What do some of our former trainees, now successful lawyers, say about their time as Trainees at Gosschalks?

“I wanted to work in a busy and challenging environment to help progress my career and I certainly found that at Gosschalks. From day one I was involved with real clients on real cases and was made to feel like an important part of the team from the off. I feel like I have gained so much experience in such a short space of time.”

Emma Walley - Associate, Company Department

I started life out at Gosschalks as a Trainee. I chose Gosschalks because I wanted to become an integral part of a successful firm rather than just a number.

Matthew Fletcher – Head of Litigation

At the time of writing, I am now in the 3rd seat of my training contract at Gosschalks and cannot emphasise enough what a fantastic firm Gosschalks is to train at. My experience to date has been varied, challenging and exciting all at the same time.
